UC Cambodia Red Cross Youth (UCCRCY), the fifth student
organization in University of Cambodia (UC), renowned the first year birthday on
July 22 to show the achievements presided over Ms. Por Malis, Vice president of
University of Cambodia and adviser of the club, and UCCRCY also took this
occasion to clean the university.
“We are young, but we don’t want to be kid anymore. UCCRCY
want to grow up in order to serve student in University of Cambodia as well as
Cambodia society more and more,” Sann Sethvitou, president of the club stressed
in his presentation.
According to him, UCCRCY have done many activities in the
first year include basic Red Cross youth training, first aid training, clean a
pagoda in Kandal province, advocate the road safety to UC students, deliver the
gift to people suffered by flood in Prey Veng, provide gift to beggar in
Kampong speu and other activities.
“University of Cambodia always cooperates firmly and supports
every activities of the club both financially and non-financially.” Sethvitou
raised the example.
He finally committed to complete the remained project for
2012 included helping beggar, second first aid training, encourage parents to
send their child to school, Teacher day, and advocate the 3 zero strategies to
stop aids transmission.
In this event, Ms. Por Malis appreciated with what the club
have done in its first year, and she encouraged the club continue their
remained projects.
She would like to see all stakeholders help this clubs to
foster the development and ability of the club to operate their projects.
“The previous achievements and the upcoming ones can be
accomplished only if there is a strong cooperation between UCCRCY and other
stakeholders like UC and Cambodian Red Cross and other Red Cross Youth clubs,”
she added.
She also stimulated UC students to involve in the club
activities because this club will bring the student the working experience as well
as enhance their creativity. Moreover, it increases their opportunity to be
employed or selected for the scholarship.
After that the art group of UCCRCY have perform a short but
meaningful and funny short story which illustrate the activities of Red Cross
Youth club to the audience before they start cleaning the university.
“I am very proud to be a UCCRCY because I can help my
university and my society, and I found out that I have earned various
experience from working in the club,” Khan Sokummono, head of planning
department of UCCRCY.
In this occasion, there is around 100 participants includes
a representative of Cambodian Red Cross, some representatives of red cross
youth clubs from other universities, faculty members, representatives of UC
Student Senate and UC Speech and Debate Society and UC students.
